Mapex Bass Rims

Posted: Mon Aug 03, 2015 9:17 am

Hey everybody, I had somebody ask me a question about Mapex bass drums yesterday and I didn't know the answer. Mapex drums usually aren't seen with rim guards due to their aluminum hoops. However, what do they do about the paint on the hoops chipping from rim clicks? Obviously rim clicks shouldn't be played above a piano dynamic but still wouldn't the paint chip over time? Do ensembles that use Mapex drums keep touch up paint on hand just in case or us there a lacquer over the rims to prevent this? Thanks!

A line that I worked recently bought all new Mapex drums and the bass rims were wooden.
Not sure about the aluminum hoops you're talking about.????

not sure about the original post's question, but the Quantum series from Mapex does have aluminum alloy hoops...
