New tenor player HELP

I just got finished playing bass 1 for my indoor season and I want to do tenors for my upcoming fall season as I was told I can have a shot and my music and footwork is good, additionally I have improved a lot on tenors like reading music, technique, chops, sweeps, etc. the problem is that a junior is also going for the tenor spot, he used to play but quit and wants to come back but he never learned a whole show and he isn't very committed, how can I get the spot instead of him?

You've made several threads that are pretty similar to this one, and the advice you get isn't really gonna change. I'm gonna say the same thing that myself and a few others said in a previous thread: show them you're committed. Show them you care, and that you want that spot more than he does, and that you will work harder to get that spot than he will. If you want more information, just go back and look at the conversations we had in the thread about convincing your directors, because none of that changes just because this junior is in the picture now.

Thanks for the advice, the one question I have is just exactly how can I actually show that I am committed?

Just like we said in the other thread, show up to every drumline event/rehearsal/audition (obviously) that you possibly can. Involve yourself with the drumline, talk to the drumline instructor, and techs if you have them, and just do as much as you can to be around and make yourself a part of the drumline before the auditions. If the directors see you consistently showing up to rehearsals and events, they see that you're talking to members of the drumline, they see that you're coming to THEM and showing interest and willingness to commit, those will all make good impressions, and will more than likely place you above the junior in their eyes. Even if he's more skilled as a player, if you can show and prove to them that you'll work harder than he will, you'll probably win out over him because you'll be willing to work and improve.
