Just to let you know.....You dont just join.....you have to be accepted. Its not like a bar where you walk in and tell them what you want.
Sinfonia only takes the highest standard of men. Men of honor valor and virtue. Men with a passion and desire for music and life.
Not everyone can (or are allowed) be apart.

I think everyone here understands the concepts behind
joining a fraternity and initiation.

what is the fraternity like
Surprised no brothers have posted this:

"The Object of the Fraternity shall be for the development of the best and truest fraternal spirit; the mutual welfare and brotherhood of musical students; the advancement of music in America, and a loyalty to the Alma Mater."

I am currently a PM for the Delta Omega chapter. Anybody who is thinking about even considering Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, look into it. I am in the beggining stages of my process and it has been the best decision of my life. All I wanted to do was get to college and graduate, don't look into any fraternities. But when I saw what the fraternity was all about, I looked into it even more and discovered that Sinfonia was the best thing for me.

As a Sinfonian myself, I would be painfully offended if you learned that handshake. You are not a member of Phi Mu Alpha. If you want to learn the grip (that's what it's actually called), please, when you get to college, pledge Phi Mu Alpha. If you were to make it through initiation, then you will have the privilege of learning the grip.

If your instructor were to show you the grip (and I seriously doubt that he would), I'd be even more offended.

There are some things in life that if you're not a member, you shouldn't have access to the secrets.

I'm not a member and I know it. Get mad.

...pretty sure I got Bill to sign my PM book at TMEA during my probationary period. Small world.

On the real, though, I cherish every memory I had in my time as a probationary/active member in PMA. The secrets (the grip, etc) that everyone else see are only the surface of what is a truly great experience. Such a great enhancement to my time as a music student.

I think I remember that actually. Indeed, a very small world.

I've thought about joining, but it is such a big time commitment that I just can't see myself doing it. As a music ed major, I am literally busy from 7:00 am to about 10 or 11 pm every day of the week (during school). There is only one Music ed major in Phi Mu Alpha at Mississippi State as far as i know, and he is borderline getting kicked out because he can't put the time into it they require.
