Beginning taps

Posted: Thu Jul 31, 2008 8:54 pm

I hear some drumlines tap and then they run through the first few bars of a warm up and then do a different tap to run through the entire thing. What is the purpose of that? Why only do the first few bars? Why a million different taps?

usually the tap off for a warm up for my drumline is the 1st 2 measures of the warm up then its *click click click tap click click click tap click tap click tap tap tap tap*.

Then to start off with a new tempo or stick height the center snare would tap then do the same thing again.

There's also *Tap click Tap click tap tap taptaptaptaptap*

idk how to explain it but tap offs are suppose to give a feel for the tempo, dynamics, time sig, rudiments, etc.

The first one is longer so the players can really dig in and prepare to play, then the middle tapoffs are shorter so the flow isn't overly interrupted.

so im guessing they would do that to save time because you would start over if the tempo gets to bad.

save time, feel tempo and all that other crap is what its for.
