Tenor players, what is a skank? I actually don't know and came across one while looking through cadences.
And snare players, what is a slap? Came across it in some Bluecoats music.

Chances are good that the "slap" you are referring to is when one clicks both sticks together with a heightened sense of fervor, so to speak.
