I've always been a huge fan of Paul Rennick's writing, so I took some time on my spring break to compile a full show transcription with rhythms, stickings, and dynamics as accurate as possible to the finals presentation of the book. Cheers!

How does one get into transcribing music? I hear it may help me with sight reading, so I'm deciding to try...

Find a piece of music that you like, preferably something simple since you're just starting out, and try to notate what they're playing. I would recommend noteflight or musescore since they're both free. Try to find a recording on youtube with a clear video if you can, and if you can't figure out what they're playing, then slow the video down to 3/4 speed or 1/2 speed, or whatever is helpful.

There aren't any real tricks to it, you just kind of start doing it. Picking a piece of music that's easy or that you're familiar with isn't a bad idea, but when it come's right down to it the difference in difficulty between transcribing, say, Vanguard music and high school music really isn't all that much. The most important thing is how big your vocabulary is, because knowing and being familiar with more rhythms and rudiments will make it easier to recognize the sound of them. Finding a high quality video certainly helps, and I typically start out by determining the tempo and time signature/signature changes if there are any. Then you just slow the video down and dive in. It's also helpful to keep a pad and sticks nearby so that you can play what you think it is and see if it lines up with the video.

Yes! I've really started paying attention to most lot videos I've seen and started to take note of which rudiments they play. But in terms of Vocabulary, I'm not up to speed with everything so I guess learning more difficult music would fill most holes. But aside from that, Software was another thing I needed. Thanks for the feedback thoe!!

RHYTHM X 19 FULL SHOW

Here is a full transcription of RX's 2019 show Alinea. Out of the 7 movements, the snares only play 4 of them: deception, crispy, divided, and dessert. I have transcribed deception, divided, and dessert. Crispy was transcribed by Jonathan Camarena and I have gone through it and fixed small mistakes and edited it to fit my style more (he is still credited for his work).

There are two versions of the show music, one that contains the entire show (plus some graphics) and one that contains only the music the snares play. Personally I like the one with the graphics better, but that's just me. I can't post the pdf on here because it is too large so I'm posting it on a drive link. The movement pdf's will have to be broken up into different posts; Only three pdfs per post.

Looking for help. I've almost finished transcribing this section of Quests '19 show but this first snare breaking is kicking my butt. I'm pretty iffy from measure 26 to the end, especially with beat 4 of mm 28 to the downbeat of 29 because the phrase that is there starts on the e of one in mm 29 so this rhythm isn't making sense. This is unfinished at this point I just need help to finish.

Thanks in advance!
