On Spring Break...it's good to get away from Buffalo for a bit.

What do you guys think of the two-speed vid?

Presenting: The Dachuda-Diddle Grid

Bonus points to whoever can find the wrong accent!

Thinking about it....

---
For those of you who are wondering WTF a Dachuda-Diddle is:

I wasn't sure what to call it....

It's a Dachuda with a diddle on the third partial... or you can think of it as a "phase shifted" flam drag... meaning flamdrags all shifted over by an eighth note.

The easist way to think of it is a Triplet:

First Partial: Tap
Second Partial: Flam
Third Partial: Diddle

Can anyone with notation software (my copy of finale is on my other computer) put that up as sheet music?

Hey Kevin,

A really fun variation I've been playing recently is to play flam drags starting on the diddle, so diddle tap flam. Then grid it by moving the rudiment while keeping the accent on the first partial.

So it goes

DIDDLE tap flam DIDDLE tap flam DIDDLE tap flam DIDDLE tap flam
FLAM diddle tap FLAM diddle tap FLAM diddle tap FLAM diddle tap
TAP flam diddle TAP flam diddle TAP flam diddle TAP flam diddle

proceed to "twos" and "ones".

This variation is cool because you get to play a 'fla' on every transition from the 1rd line to the 2nd line, then a book-report-sounding-thingy from the 3rd line back to the 1st. The 'ones' sounds especially sweet because of this.

I'd call it a "flam drag grid, gridding the rudiment not the accent, starting on the drag."

crazy. I wonder what it would sound like if you did that.... and also did the accents. Bugged out... hurts my brain to even think about it.

I'd call it a "flam drag grid, gridding the rudiment not the accent, starting on the drag."

I think it's called a Fredrickson's grid or something. When you start (accent) on different partials of the rudiment instead of moving the accent.

Still, the hardest grid I have ever heard of is:

buzz/crush
diddle
diddle

and grid the buzz/crush, whatever you call it.
Insane.

Well, I've got Finale, but at my computer at school (thank god for spring break). Could you just write out the hybrid itself? I don't think this one is out there anywhere, either in the 128 hybrids book or the vic firth site.

Since the Summer of 04.

I played Bassoon in high school (Trumpet and Sax in HS marching band)... and when I started college at Rutgers... I wanted to try something new. So I joined the drumline.

Hmmm... really, it's changed over the years. Something that's remained constant is that anything I drum on a daily basis is Exercise-Based. (I'm including these grids in that)

When I started drumming, I focused a lot on trying to learn various drum corps books... until I realized I wasn't getting any better.

So I made a commitment to play nothing but fundamental exercise-based stuff (unless I had show music to learn)... and it's payed off dividends.
