So....unfortunately Im going to be moving to Alaska. What's the band and corps scene like up there? Looks like I won't be doing a corps anytime soon.

So....unfortunately Im going to be moving to Alaska. What's the band and corps scene like up there? Looks like I won't be doing a corps anytime soon.

Think of it this way: People from Europe and Asia march drum corps in America and they've done it in practically every ensemble. I've marched with people from Italy, Japan, Belgium, London, etc...

From Alaska, the closest options will be groups from the West Coast, such as Spokane Thunder, Seattle Cascades, or Oregon Crusaders, but you'll obviously have to fork up some cash to fly there. If you want to pull it off, you'll likely need to be working a part time job during school to save up, which is what everyone I've marched with from foreign countries or distant parts of the US has done to cover the costs. Video auditions are still an option, but you'll likely want to be at the camps to gain the knowledge and get more face time.
