Caffeine and summer rehearsals will not be kind to each other.

Stop with the coffee now and allow your body to transition.

Same advice as Bill gave. And if you're drinking enough cups of coffee a day to be addicted at your age, you're not going to like the results in the long run.

I had a HUGE caffeine addiction when I started college. I drank more soda in a day than many people would in a week. When I started school, I was told by my coach that I had to give up sofa and caffeine, so I quit cold turkey. It was a rough couple of weeks as my body adjusted, but I'm far better off for it.

Why do you have such a coffee addiction at a young age?

Just stop dude. It really is that easy. Take it from a former caffeine addict. Best decision I ever made was to simply quit cold turkey. A week of withdrawals, but was for the better afterwards.

Try being in college with a full course load, part time job and collegiate athletics.

I was a pain in the ass for about two weeks, but everyone that knew what was going on supported me.

Do it the way you want, but I've tried weening myself off things in the past and it took far longer and ended up not working.

Thats a lot of coffe dude. Coffe can be really addicting, Im sorry your parents/guardians allowed you to get that bad at such a young age. If I were you, I wold consult a doctor and see what they think you should do. Just like any drug addiction, its safer to let a medical profesional set you a schedule for weaning off or stopping cold turkey depending on what they think.

I've been surviving the weekend camps this year by bringing bottles of black tea. It helps to wean off of it by switching to black or green tea and you should be okay. But by the summer since caffeine is a diuretic, it'll be best to cut it to make your life easier and give yourself time to adjust to the change. Quitting cold turkey can be rough, but weaning off is easier.

Snare Playa wrote:Eh tea. My goal is to just be completely off of the stuff in two weeks. Didn't even think about it being a diuretic!!
It's really for the best. I love coffee & tea but the caffeine kinda sucks.

Most corps won't serve tea or coffee at meals because it's a diuretic. Honestly, I don't totally agree with this rationale - dehydration from drinking coffee or tea is easily negated if you drink plenty of water (like you should be anyway). I drink coffee then go for a run all the time and feel great. Caffeine isn't an uncommon workout supplement. It's just that if you can't function without it, you're kind of holding everyone back if the food crew runs out/doesn't have time to brew any. They already need to take enough special requests for vegetarians/gluten free/etc.

Hey, Snare Playa, it's been a couple weeks. How's the quitting going?

I also have a caffeine addiction I've been meaning to kick.
