I think designers this season just saw how good looking stars were in 2010, and though "damn, that Drumline arouses me sexually! What can we do to look like that group of superbly masculine men?" After realizing that the amount of testosterone present in that group was impossible to replicate, they settled on just using a similar finish.

My favorite drums so far this season are Surf, Blue Stars, and Bluecoats. Mapex has really stepped up their game.

I'm gonna save up starting now and buy one of those SOA drums. God, they are gorgeous. Makes you almost feel bad for vanity-driven women, basking in its glory...

As a film student I'm a fan of BD's drums. Spirit's drums are dope, but I'm seeing the whole ring fad with Pearl start to become huge, it's cool, but is it THAT cool

It's like butterscotch. Some are pretty out there, but less bland colors. I feel last year featured a lot of flat/glossy solid colors, though I do like the look of a satin black pearl...

Completely agree. Sometimes just going basic is the best than overdoing it with the finish.

I dont understand why people are freaking out about SOA. It just looks like horizontal stripes. Best goes to Blue Stars and BD. They are different and fit PERFECTLY with their shows.

It is just horizontal stripes. However, I personally think its the best use of that style yet and it's a big deviation for Spirit (who typically just rock a plain black finish).

I do agree that BD and Stars have finishes perfectly tailored to their shows. BD hasn't had one so spot on since the mirror drums in '10.
