Does this count as racism?

Posted: Wed Apr 10, 2013 6:08 am

So, in school yesterday, I walked past a big circle jerk of white guys telling racist jokes around one black guy, using the n-word in a clearly derogatory manner multiple times. When I approached them about it, they said I should "get a sense of humor". I have a high melting point so I wasn't even close to getting mad, but this still bothered me. So is this racist or just offensive?
I have no problem with people saying it as a form in endearment, but some people just take it too far. So do you think everyone should start saying it or do you think no one should say it?

We've lasted some 1900-ish years without saying the n-word (dont know when it originated). I don't see a reason for either race to use it

The use of that word is inherently racist AND offensive. The two qualities are by no means mutually exclusive

It all depends on how the one black guy felt. I know people who joke around, call them "N word" and then get called something back. I personally never say it but if friends wanna take it there then they do. A "group" as you said however saying it to one guy seems very rude though.

I hate when anyone, but white guys especially, think it is ok to use the n word just because their "black friends do". I also hate it when black people use the n word, and then in the next breath complain about racism still being around. If you perpetuate it, no matter what the form, you are just as guilty and can not claim the role of the victim

Snarescience did. Not the user, the site - since typing 'the n word' results in the word "*beep*", your link was automatically changed.
