Good it allows to take classes you actually want to take.
And if your school offers it, take latin!

why in the world would you take latin?

Because it's not hard, helps you with English and your SAT's and most teachers that teach are pretty cool because of the personally you have to have to major in it.

That's the problem, we're the only high school in our city that has it.
A lot of cities that have it in my state only have it for like 1 or 2 schools out of 5 or 6 in the city

It's helped me numerous times in big ways. I'm going to guess that I probably wouldn't have scored a 35 on ACT english or the GRE without it.

Most modern language is derived from it in some way

this. I also scored very well on the english portion of the ACT with no latin at all. if you're going to actually use your latin, as kjennings or others have, take it. don't take it just because it's easy though-take a class in something you actually like or will use.

My 4th semester of latin was just the aeneid. Read books 1-5 in latin and books 6-12 in english... pretty rough. My final consisted of translating 2 chunks, each 75 lines. No dictionary or footnotes. We had read like 2500 lines and any of those were fair game for the final. B- in the class.
