I'm almost sure you got your answer by now somewhere..but

Tenuto - played as a "half accent" like as 6 inches instead of the full 9

Accents - 9 inch stroke

Marcato - a shot
What do you mean by "a shot"? rim shot? because i have seen marcato on normal notes as well. Whats the difference in terms of technique, sound and height from an accent?
I'm here to learn!!

Marcato's are kinda poorly defined in marching music. Some composers write marcato accents over normal note heads when they want shots. Others write marcato accents over X noteheads to mean shots. Others just write accents over X noteheads. There isn't really a standard... it kinda depends on the composer.

That is true..I guess I should have explained that..all of the guys that I get music from right now just use them for shots so I forgot other composers don't always do that :oops:

shots = rims shots right??

So does it mean that all the notes with marcato in bar 2,4,7,8 must be played on the rims? (bass drum)

And what if marcato are put on keyboard percussion notes? how to play it then? same like accents?

No..in music like that (stock parts) they will mean loud accents..especially on bass drum. Rim clicks will almost always be shown with a different notehead like an x and will be explained

On keyboard I would assume a louder accent but I'm not sure

Hey guys. I'm writing a simple concert band piece to put myself up to a fun challenge, and I want to have a Percussion 1 part(Snare Drum/Bass Drum) and a Percussion 2 part (Sus/Crash/etc.), but I need to split the staff per se so that the ONE STAFF has two individual parts at the same time. For example, I would have a quarter note for the snare on the top but a half rest for the bass drum on the bottom. How would I go about splitting the single staff as such? Thank you.

I'm using Sibelius 7.

Put the snare part in voice one and the bass part in voice 2.
