Did you restart Sibelius and your computer?

Just did, with no luck.

Edit: One thing I may have missed. When I select my playback configuration and go to Manual Sound Sets, then next to Device select Show, it opens the Kontakt window but no instruments show up. Should there be stuff there?

What version of Kontakt are you using and are you using Kontakt Player or the full version of Kontakt?

In playback devices you select KP5 as your playback device on the left hand side. When it moves to the right hand side, the third column is marked "Sound Set". In that dropdown do you not see VDL SoundSet?

And you're doing this in a fresh Write Score Template?

Take a screen cap of your playback devices window and your preferences playback screen for me.

I wasn't sure which one you wanted me to take, so here's two.

Buranri wrote:It was in the wrong folder, so I just changed that. However, the issue I'm having is that when I try to add an instrument and select the Choose Instruments menu, the VDL instruments aren't listed there. Also, what's the difference between Kontakt 5 (AU) and Kontakt 5 (VST)?
Nothing really. AU stands for Audio Unit and is used by Mac Computers. VST was developed by Steinberg and is used mainly by Windows machines even though Macs can use it as well. Either one will work fine but if you're on Mac stick with one for your usage. Try not to mix vst and au in the same configuration.

I'm trying to a couple bars of 13/8 grouped like this: 3 eighth notes, 4, 3, 3. However, Finale only groups them as singles. So I changed the time signature to 3/8 + 4/8 + 3/8 + 3/8 appearing as 13/8. No dice. Any help?

You can manually rebeam the notes so they're grouped like you want them to be

Hate to be that guy, but how? The only tool for rebeaming I've found is in utilities> rebeaming and after I select it, it does literally nothing.

Is there any way to be able to write for multiple, different sized cymbals?
I have Finale Printmusic 2011.

I was wanting something like what happens around 0:45

You'd either have to have a separate staff for each size, or a different space on one staff for each one. The second method won't alter playback that much however. I do believe the stock Finale sounds are one size only.

The stock finale sounds are indeed only for one size. As far as playback I can have multiple sizes if you send the score to me. For notation the only thing I know would work would be to make a separate part for each size but that doesn't seem to be the best way although it may be the only choice for that version.

As Bill said, it's a user guide, not software. Not to mention, that version is 3 years old and 2 gens behind.

In finale 2014 when I add grace notes they are very open. How do I get them to sound more connected? Thanks

I have a question for those with VDL 2.5 and Sibelius 7.
When working with Marimbas and Vibraphones, how do you do cymbal crashes and rolls on the staff. (What pitch and notehead do I need to use)?

Thanks in advance.

You have to do an instrument change to one of the cymbal instruments. Because of the mapping requirements that started with Sibelius 5, the suspended cymbals that are mapped on to the vibe and marimba instruments became unusable.
