Usually a copy of your student ID or a class schedule with your name and the current semester would suffice. I believe once you order you will get an email or call asking you to verify your student status. I haven't worked at Avid for a few years so the system may be different now.

I'm new to Finale and I was just wondering, how do you write the sticking for drum parts? Sorry if there has already been a post about this, just need to know

Is there a lyrics option? I don't have it but that was how I get it done in noteflight.

Yeah that's what I've been using (Sibelius, but same idea). It sucks trying to write out stickings for long passages with changes in stickings, but w/e. It's much more irritating as a player to have nothing written out.

This has been an issue for me since I got Sibelius, but I suddenly have the urge to resolve it. I currently use Sibelius 6 with VDL Lite. When I play back tenor music, the is a tremendous volume issue. In particular, the 3/4 drums are noticeably quiet, and a note on the 1/2 coming after a note on a 3/4 drum is played with a greater (accented) velocity. As you can guess, this seriously distorts the sound coming from the battery.

Has anyone experienced this issue? If so, how did you resolve it?

Are you using Kontakt Player 2 that comes with Sibelius?

Sorry Tom. Forgot about this.

From what I remember, there were some formatting issues with the way Sibelius encoded the VDL Lite sounds into the Sibelius Sounds.

I do believe that you can load the Sibelius Sounds in to newer versions of Kontakt Player. Might be worth looking in to.

From a software standpoint, there is no difference. The offer lower pricing to students and educators. If you were to read the EULA, you'd see that if you're using an academic version, you're not allowed to sell any works created with that version. However, I have clue how they could even begin to track that.

Background: I have VDL, Kontakt 5, and Sibelius 7, I'm using the current maps from the WriteScore.

Problem: All the sounds are really quiet when I'm inputting notes or playing back parts, Even with my volume turned all the way up and a good pair of headphones in its still hard to hear, is there anything I can do to make them sound at a reasonable level?

Not sure how it works in Sibelius 7 but in Sibelius 6, you can go to "Play">"Show Playback Devices" (or something similar to that), click on Kontakt, and then click "Show". It will launch your current instance of Kontakt, on which you can mainly raise the level (I usually raise mine to about +20 dB). Unfortunately, this won't save (not all the time anyways - my instances always used to start at 0, but now it always starts at +16 dB), so you'll probably have to do this every time you open Sibelius.

Also, make sure to check the live velocities of the notes in the score. I remember I had a similar problem when a friend sent me a score, and all the of the live velocities were around 40-50, which means pretty quiet.

Also make sure you have the latest versions of all the software. There were some initial issues with K5 and Sibelius 7.

I recently wrote a percussion ensemble for my school that we're playing for the spring concert, however, even though I've put the title and subtitle into the file section under info, the title does not appear on the music that I gave to my director.
Any help? because this happened with other music as well.

I have Sibelius 7, by the way.

You have to either set wild cards, or do a text enter for the title and subtitle.

I'm writing a multiple percussion solo, and I need to be able to actually hear what I'm writing. I need a marimba, a few cymbals, bongos, and a conga. I know all those sounds are in Sibelius, but how do I use them and a marimba at the same time? I don't have VDL, unfortunately, but there must be some way to map the sounds out without it.

You have to do instrument changes to get the correct mapping and playback.

It's been a while since I used the Sibelius Essentials sounds, so I can't remember what specific instruments sounds are included.

All of that is spelled out in the instruction manual.

But what if I need to do two separate instruments at once? The instrument changes I know of changes that whole part to the different instrument. I need to still have it on marimba, but be able to play bongos, conga, etc. I'll check the manual though

Some sib7 questions. I checked the manual and searched the interwebs for answers, couldn't find any.

1) Grace note space. Flams are way to open. All I've found in the manual is how to make them closer to the note in appearance, but not in playback. How can I make them closer to the primary note?
2) Bass drum playback. Quiet as hell! Snares and the Q are fine, but bass playback is much, much lower. I've checked velocities, and they're all at the default 80. Basses are balanced in the mixer.
3) Buzz playback doesn't seem to be happening. Sometimes, it doesn't happen at all. Other times, it sounds like a bunch of really fast notes, but not smooth like a buzz roll. I'm using standard Z notation.
4) Bass drum unison rim clicks. In sib 6, I knew how to get these going by editing the house styles and setting them to play. I can't figure out how to do this on 7. I'm using the "Ornate Cross" notehead, which played sib6.

I'm using the standard sib7 sounds, not vdl. When I set the playback mode to use sib6 essentials, everything is fine. But, I like the new sounds more (for the most part. Basses don't have as much tone as I'd like, and quad shots leave something to be desired), so I'd like to use them. If anyone could help me with any of these, I'd greatly appreciate it!
