My experience with Sibelius 6 has been great. It is very easy to use and a very good program. I run it with VDL 2.5 and it's just awesome what you can do with it. Also, it's very easy to use VDL 2.5 and Sibelius at the same time, you just have to get the template off of Tapspace (most reliable source) and then everything is good to go! Love it, wouldn't use or recommend anything else.

My opinions are MY OPINIONS. Don't get your panties in a bunch over it, we're all entitled to them.

I've always used Finale products, and I've never had a problem with them. I can't wait to get VDL 2.5 with Finale 2011, though. That'll be NICE! :)

For VDL 1, yes. VDL 2 accesses the sound library through Kontakt Player (which comes with later versions of Finale and Sibelius) rather than using sound fonts (like VDL 1), which require a sound font capable sound card.

So does the VDL template for sibelius cause you to not have to buy the full VDL.

No you still have to buy VDL. All the template does is make it easier for the sounds to work with Sibelius. Or at least this is what I thought... I've never used the templates yet, and I could be wrong. Someone wanna verify this?

The templates ensure that the correct notehead is being put in the correct place so you correct playback and notation.

That's what Virtual Drumline is; VDL = drum sounds.

VDL is useful if you're only a writer as well. It's great being able to write something and have instant feedback on how it will sound.

Click on View then uncheck Toolbar and see if you can then see enough of the top of the box to move it.

Just some general things

Rim shots = alt + shift +29

These work on snare and tenors

Bass unison = alt + shift +28
but to make them playback you have click "house style"
Click "edit note heads"
Scroll down to #28 and click it
Click edit
Check the boxes that say "transposes" "plays"
Click ok

For rim clicks for any instrument
Select the note
Click on create
Click on text
Click "other staff text"
Click "tiny text"
Type in "rim"
and it will play back as a rim click

What's a good program to play along with?

Instructor said something like Audacity or something with an A.

Audacity is a recording program. So, if you had a recording of what you are playing you can put it into Audacity and record yourself playing along with it.
