Marching bass drum notation question?

So im playing bass drum and there's this one notation which I can't find the meaning to of anywhere. It is like a little horizontal zig zag with 2 points in either direction. It's like on the stem not above it.what the hell is this? It's an 8th note marked R for rite hand if that helps

Generally that means to do a crush, essentially the first partial of a buzz roll.
