Distance of tenors

Posted: Mon May 18, 2015 7:22 pm

Hey, quick question.
So. I'm 6'2", going to be a junior at Timpanogos High School. I'm marching tenors, but I have one problem. With the harness on, my comfortable playing zone is about on the far side of drums 3 and 4. With Yamaha's old harnesses and the 8200 Field Corps tenors, does anyone know of a way to push the drums further away from my body?
Thanks,

Nathan Winters

I don't really have a solution for you, because I don't really think there is one. I had this EXACT SAME problem in high school, and it was only worse when I would return from DCI. I couldn't cram my arms far enough back to get my beads in the right spots on those tiny quads. I ended up just playing snare for the rest of HS and only marched Quads in DCI and College. Obviously, this isn't an option for everyone.

A HS line I teach was having this problem, so I had to convince the director to convince the band boosters to buy full sized quads. Anyways, it sucks. Sorry.

You could redrill the mounting hardware to be further back on the drums, but that can be messy.
