Laminate or Original V3?

Posted: Sat Dec 06, 2014 12:30 pm

I want to get an invader for Christmas, but I want to know which pad to go with? Which feels the most like a real snare, and will lead to the least amount of pad hands? Which one is more durable? Also, is the laminated pad double sided?

Laminate is best I'd say. I've had both. The laminates tend to crack after some use, but you can buy replacements. And no, it's only laminated on the rim side.

I own the original V3 and have played on a laminate one and to weigh the pros and cons I would say the laminate is more articulate, and it doesn't have that tacky feel where your sticks will get caught. On the downside of course there is the chance that the laminate can crack like he said ^^^, but... you won't have to mess with that turtle wax stuff. I vote for the laminate.

The laminate would be the most realistic. Maybe a little louder, though, but not much. As for the cracking, I've had one of the mini laminate ovals on mine for like a year and a half and it hasn't cracked yet. Maybe I'm just not practicing enough.

Where can I buy replacements, and how much are they? Thanks for the reply.

On the Offworld website. It's just dark matter under the laminate, just peel of the old and slap on another.

Any of Offworld Percussion’s products will suit the purpose of practicing wonderfully as almost every user of this site can attest; they are phenomenal practice pads. Again, they all feel similar to a marching snare drum’s tensioned top head; but, pad hands is not a universal issue. Pad Hands is an issue that arises from poor technique and lack of controlling the bounce you receive from striking a snare head, practice pad, table, etc. Pad hands is a product of poor control not poor practice pad design or lack of an actual marching snare drum, which is always an option if you want a surface that most closely resembles a … snare drum.
